Sweida's is one of the largest importers and supplier of costumes, costume accessories, wigs, hats, masks, make-up and lots more in Australia!

We have approximately 2000 lines of stock across a broad range of costume & party lines.

Supplying party products to thousands of party shops and event companies across Australia and New Zealand, each dealing in everything from Costume Hire, Fancy Dress, Giftware, Dance Shops, Party Stores, Adult Shops, Event Companies, Performance & Theatre Companies and many many more.

Up until our recent move to 13 Jaybel Street, Sweida's were one of the last wig making services in the country. With our then Wig Department hand making wigs to order, our much loved Delux Santa Wigs & Beards and our Custom Made Dancers Hair Pieces.

A BRIEF COMPANY HISTORY

Established in 1912, Sweida's celebrated their 100th Anniversary in May 2012. Being one of the first shops to open in the Brisbane Arcade, Mr Charles A Schweida kick started the family business as a hairdresser. Family members followed in the trade until the Second World War, when son Leo Schweida, with his dancer wife Elva, continued the business name as a wigmaker and theatrical supplier.

After trading in the arcade for 50 years & expanding the business into fancy dress, ballet and dancewear, the shops were sold and Leo & Elva, who began contemplating their retirement commenced a small 'hobby' business in Annerley.

The 'hobby' grew rapidly, however was passed down to the third generation, to daughter Christine.  Together with her husband Jeff, they have maintained the success of the Queensland family owned and operated business, now importing extensively, to stock the largest range of Theatrical Supplies, Fancy Dress and Costume Accessories in Queensland.

After the introduction of new 'modern methods' of operation and fresh ideas into the business, the rapid growth saw the need for more space, relocating to Salisbury in 1996. It wasn't long after the move however that the Schweida family suffered a loss of the much loved Mr Schweida' (Leo). And of recently the most adored Mrs Schweida’ (Elva) has too passed on to be with her husband Leo. 

Granddaughter Samantha the fourth generation, has recently joined in on the excitment of the family business. Her enthusiasm to grow and develop the family legacy and again turn the page to follow the market trends will surely make proud her departed grandparents. 

As one of the last surviving fully Queensland owned and operated business for over a century, the Sweida's name in the business community is respected by both our customers and competitors.

Extending our many thanks to our loyal customers who have supported us over the years and continue to do so, Sweida's hope to continue the success of the business for many years and a few more generations to come.
